I normally dont supply the MDAC install program (MDACTYP.EXE), because all previous versions already had it installed. Win 10 does not appear to come with it installed, so I included it in the install program. When I ran my install program the second time, everything installed correctly. When I examined what got installed, it was WDAC 6.3.9600.16384. Can anyone confirm that WDAC is not installed on a new Win 10 installation It normally can be found in the registry at: HKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftDataAccess J.A. Hope that helps, but maybe makes it more foggy. There is no reason to try to install over the top of them with creaky ancient versions. If you attempt to, File Protection will fend off your attempt. If you succeed in this it will detect it and replace the junk with correct versions afterward. I have never had any need or reason to attempt this on any version of Windows since Windows 2000 SP 4 or so and probably earlier. Even Windows 95 with IE 4.x installed includes the MDACDAC components. What appears to have happened is that Win 10 recognized that a newer version existed but was not installed, and installed the version that it already had. I found the following on superuser.com which seems to verify that: You can not install MDAC on Windows 10. Click Start and type ODBC and that will bring up Setup ODBC Data Sources. There are 32 and 64 bit versions, you should probably use the 32 bit version. J.A. Coutts Addendum: Not installing everything seems to be something that Win 10 does. Even though the drivers were installed, I still had to activate WiFi Bluetooth, and there was no help offered. The last time I ran into an MDAC issue was because it was included in my installer and that was I think Windows 2000. I have omitted it from all installs since then and I not had any related issue on any version of Windows including 10 and various server versions. Mdac 2.8 Win 10 Windows 10 Machines IEdit: Now that I think about I am pretty sure that all of the windows 10 machines I have installed on also have SQL Server Express installed on them so I do not know if that would be why I have not saw an issue or not.
